Right
on the beach at Bogmalo, with Coconut Creek a few yards down - owned
by the same delightful people - is an unusual meeting of Scotland
and Goa. The place is run by Agnelo’s brother Selvy who goes to the
fish market daily so there is a constant supply of prime fish to the
restaurant: prawns, shark, kingfish, crab... no wonder people come
from far and wide to eat here. Joet’s is a guest house, a Coconut
Creek on a modest scale, and you may share the swimming pool if you
tire of the sea. Café-bars play western music but Bogmalo is still a
small-scale resort, and the guest house still stands among battered
fishing boats and wind-bent palms. It’s been a huge success
considering it started life as a fisherman’s shack - and the beach
is pretty much yours: a treat in Goa. The interiors are light and
colourful, simple and charming: blue tiles in the restaurant, blue
spreads on the beds, tiled floors, fans and mini-bars, tea and
coffee trays and small balconies for the upstairs rooms. All have
their own separate living room. The noise of giant waves tumbling
onto the sands guarantees deep sleep.
