By Air : Bagdogra is the nearest airport and it is 124 Km from Gangtok, the journey taking approximately 4 hours. There are regular scheduled flights operated by Indian Airlines from Delhi and Calcutta to Bagdogra. Taxis are available outside Bagdogra airport for Gangtok. The Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) also runs a special ‘Snow-Lion’ mini bus service.

By Rail : The two closest railway stations to Gangtok are Siliguri junction 114 kms away and New Jalpaiguri 125 kms away. From both these stations one can board trains to Calcutta, Delhi and other important cities of India. Besides private buses, SNT also plies a regular bus service from Siliguri station to Gangtok.
