Mapusa (pronounced ‘Mapsa’) is the main town for supplies for those staying at Anjuna or Chapora. The Friday market (8 am to 2 pm) here is an interesting event.

Accommodation, Restaurants and Cafés:The nearby beaches of Anjuna, Vagator and Chapora are preferable to staying in Mapusa.

Hotel Vilena (Feira Baixa) has doubles with shared bath for Rs 200, (US$ 5.00) or Rs 300 (US$ 7.00) with bath.

Hotel Suhas has dormitory beds for Rs 60 and doubles with bath for Rs 99, but in high season the doubles become four-bed rooms at Rs 320 (US$ 7.50).

Reaching Mapusa:There are regular buses to Mapusa from Mumbai, Pune, Hubli and Belgaum. There are buses to Panaji and half-hourly buses to Anjuna or Calangute. A motorcycle costs Rs 50 to Anjuna or Calangute and takes about 15 minutes. Auto-rickshaws/taxis charge around Rs 70/100 (a maximum of US$ 2.5).
