The Prithvi Theatre is a subsidiary of the Shri Prithviraj Kapoor Memorial Trust & Research Foundation. The Trust was set up in 1975 in the memory of Prithviraj Kapoor, to achieve the following aims:

 

To promote professional theatre, Hindi Theatre primarily, by providing and managing a well-equipped Theatre space at very reasonable costs, with all technical facilities.

To subsidise and promote aspiring and deserving stage artists, technicians, researchers etc.

To host and conduct workshops.

To provide rehearsal and workshop spaces.

To create a theatre resource centre and research library (under construction).

To provide medical and educational assistance to theatre workers and their children.

The Prithvi Theatre is a completely non-profit entity depending on the patronage of individuals and Corporates committed to the development of the performing and fine arts. Since its inception it is these patrons who have enabled the theatre to grow and expand its activities.

Highlights

Prithvi Theatre has performances Tuesday to Sunday through the year, with an average of over 626 shows a year!

 

The rental is scaled to the ticket rate – between Rs 150 to Rs 1180 depends on days.

 

Regular show times at Prithvi tend to be 6 pm & 9 pm. Groups have the option to perform one or two shows (of the same production) each evening on weekdays, but must perform two shows on weekends.

 

The Gallery is a small one, housed in the foyer of the theatre. There are five large walls and two smaller walls. Rails on the walls allow for easy hanging and adjustment of paintings, photographs and so on. There are also ceiling lights suitable for lighting exhibitions.

The outdoor spaces and walls, and the Prithvi Café are also available for exhibitions.

 

The small and quaint Bookshop stocks books related to Plays, Theatre, Performing Arts and other Theatre related arts. We also have a small curated stock of DVDs.

 

The Prithvi Cafe is an open air cafe hugged by gorgeous trees, bamboo and plants.

A little oasis of tranquillity in the middle of the Mumbai. Especially know for it’s Irish Coffee, Cutting Chai and Brownies.
