Vadodara, formerly also known as Baroda, is the third largest city in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is the administrative headquarters of Vadodara District and is located on the banks of the Vishwamitri river, 141 kilometres (88 mi) from the state capital Gandhinagar. The railway line and NH 8 that connect Delhi and Mumbai pass through Vadodara. The city got its name because of the copious amount of Banyan (Vad) trees found in the city. The city is also known as Sanskari Nagari (The Cultural City) and Kala Nagari (the city of art) of India.

Sardar Sarovar Dam : 

The Sardar Sarovar Dam or Narmada Dam is a gravity dam built across the Narmada River at Kevadiya, Navagam in Gujarat. It is Narmada Valley Project part, a large hydraulic engineering project involving the construction of a series of multi-purpose hydroelectric dams and large irrigation over the Narmada River. The project started in 1979 under a development project to produce hydroelectricity and increase irrigation.

Sardar Dam is the lifeline of Gujarat and the second largest dam in the world in terms of size and volume. The dam helped a lot in revenue of region and agricultural output. The canal head powerhouse and river bed powerhouse are two powerhouses of the dam. Both produce lots of electricity that goes to Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Statue of Unity :  The Statue of Unity is a colossal statue of Indian statesman and independence activist Vallabhbhai Patel (1875–1950), who was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home minister of independent India and adherent of Mahatma Gandhi during the non-violent Indian Independence movement. Patel was highly respected for his leadership in uniting 562 princely states of India with a major part of the former British Raj to form the single Union of India. The statue is located in the state of Gujarat, India. It is the world's tallest statue with a height of 182 metres (597 feet). It is located on the Narmada River in the Kevadiya colony, facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam 100 kilometres (62 mi) southeast of the city of Vadodara and 150 kilometres (93 mi) from Surat.

The project was first announced in 2010 and the construction of the statue started in October 2013 by Larsen & Toubro, with a total construction cost of ?2,989 crore (?29.89 billion; US$437 million). It was designed by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar, and was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31 October 2018, the 143rd anniversary of Sardar Patel's birth

How To Reach Statue of Unity

By Road : Rajpipla in the Narmada district is the nearest city to the Statue of Unity, about 25 kilometres away from Sardar Sarovar Dam.

By AIr : The Vadodara airport is about 90 kilometres away from the site. From the airport, you can hire a cab or use the state transport to get to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue.

By Railway Station : Vadodara railway station is the nearest rail head to the Sardar Patel statue. You can get on the public transport or book a cab to take you directly to the site.
