Vellore  is a Commercial, Administrative, Educational and Medical services hub just about 135 kms from State Capital Chennai and 60 Kms from Kanchipuram. Pallava, Chola, Nayaks, Maratha, Carnatic Nawab and Bijapur Sultan Kingdoms have shared the rule of this area over hundreds of years and have been part of its development too. Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC) is located at Vellore which provides specialized and Advanced medical services for thousands of patients every day. The Fort houses a Siva Temple, a Church and a Mosque. Recently famous Narayani Amman [MAHALAKSHMI] Golden Temple is just 10 kms from the town. District Population is 39,36,331 [2011 census] and the Town populations is 1,85,895 [2011 census]

Vellore Fort : This is an ancient Fort built in the year 1566 by Chinna Bommi Nayak and Thimma Reddy Nayak, located in the heart of the town and retains the past glory with its ramparts, basements, turrets, posts, gates and massive granite walls. During the Carnatic War the first revolt of South Indian Soldiers took place only for a day on July 10th 1806, when 200 British soldiers were killed. This was a prelude to the half century later version of year long Great Revolt or Indian / Vellore mutiny in 1857. In the earlier version Tippu’s were reinstated and in the 1857 revolt Bahadur Shah was reinstated as the king. Now government has its public offices inside the fort premises. 

Muthu Mandapam : This is a memorial built around the Tombstone of Vikramaraja Singh, the last Tamil Ruler of Kandy. Situated on the bank of Palar River is just 1 km from Vellore Town. 

Jalagandeeswarar Temple : This temple located inside the Fort is deicated to Lord Siva called as Jalakandeeswarar. 18 feet tall statues of Dwarapalakars [entrance guards], The sculptures , carvings and the entire architecture speaks volumes about the exquisite craftsmanship of art and architecture. It has a big wedding hall adorned with elegant reliefs and monolithic art work. This temple premises remained as Arsenal for a long period. Only a few years ago the temple was consecrated with new sculpture of the deity.  

Government Museum : This Government Museum was originally established in Lutchmanasamy Town hall in 1985. For want of large space it was shifted to the Fort Premise on 1st April 1999. This has 8 galleries. It exhibits objects of art, archaeology, weapons, sculptures, bronzes, numismatics, philately, totaling almost 3000 exhibits. This museum is open on all days except government holidays between 9.00 and 12.30 - 2.00 and 5.00 p.m. 

C.M.C. Hospital : Internationally popular Christian Medical College or CMC , established by Dr.Idda Scudder of American Medical Missionary, in the year 1900 as a small dispensery. Specialist and Advance treatments are provided for Cardiac, Neurological and Cancer related ailments. This hospital houses a Mental Health Hospital and a College of Nursing too.
