Kalimpong Park - Kalimpong - West Bengal

Kalimpong Park Hotel, once known as Dinajpur House, the former summer residence of the Maharaja of Dinajpur is a hotel with character, situated on a viewpoint, 1 km. uphill from the downtown area.

The hotel faces north-east, and has a 270 degree panoramic view of the hills and valleys, with Kachenjunga massif standing majestically on the left. The hotel has it’s own gardens and cars drive up to the front door.

RESTAURANT:

Kalimpong Park Hotel has been established for 27 years but the initial inception took place in 1978 – as a small three bedroom guesthouse.

From the modest traveller to the glitzy film actor, the arrogant politician to the deceitful tax inspector, they all have experienced our heritage hospitality and our wholesome, healthy meals.

We have tried our hand at Specialty menus, and exotic dishes – but finally concluded many years ago, that what the tired traveller or the discerning hotel guest wants is wholesome, freshly cooked meals prepared by experienced hands.

Having started on kerosene stoves and coking coal, until the early nineties we were using firewood for cooking, but after being aware of the environment, switched over to regular commercial cooking gas.

Our restaurant boasts of Indian, Continental, Chinese and Local (i.e. Nepalese and Tibetan cuisine).

For non-vegetarian dishes, our menu features chicken and eggs only, but we do serve mutton and fish on special request.

By Indian we mean, the regular types of vegetarian and Non-vegetarian items from East and North India, although on request we can prepare simple Marathi dishes like kadi, etc.

Continental would be dishes like roasts, grills, stew and so on.

Chinese cuisine would compare to the Mandarin type – like rice and noodle dishes, poultry, pork, fish, etc. and of course Vegetarian Chinese food which we have adapted to suit the  Indian palate. (Please note: we take it easy on the MSG, i.e. monosodium glutamate).

Local cuisine offered is quite interesting.

The most popular items in the Nepalese cuisine would be the fixed meals for lunch / dinner with the variety of dishes and pickles and the overall combination. However, we let the guest choose the dessert.

Tibetan dishes can be had as snacks or light meals. These are simple steamed or fried dishes although the vegetarian fare has sometimes been described as being rather bland – its worth a try anyway!

Kalimpong Park Hotel, once known as Dinajpur House, was the summer residence of a Maharajah. Situated on a viewpoint, one kilometre uphill from town, it is now a renowned Heritage hotel with a unique character. The hotel has its own lawns and gardens and cars drive up to the front porch.
