Patan Mahal is the ancestral home of Rao Digvijay Singh Patan and his family. The family has lived in Patan from the 12th Century. First in the Badal Garh Mahal and later shifted here. Patan Mahal is situated on the foot hills. He has now opened his home to the discerning traveler. It is a heritage hotel with 19 rooms with all modern amenities, maintaining it’s original character.

By the 1980s we were spending most of our time in Jaipur, and visited our Palace and grounds a few times a year. In 2005, we decided that it was time to return. We spent the next five years lovingly restoring the palace and grounds to their former glory.

Along the way, we took a conscious decision not to carve out more rooms, and retained the old, large and airy rooms. The period furniture showcases the skill and expertise of the Rajasthani artisan. Beautiful paintings on the wall and roofs have been carefully restored. The nooks and crannies have been retained, and many rooms contain surprises — there is the room with a trapdoor, and there is more than one room with little doors and staircases that lead into the turrets, the kind of spaces that a writer or artist looking to escape the world will love.

The beautifully appointed rooms at Patan Mahal reflect the royal heritage of Rajputana, and the Patan Family. All our rooms have clean and well designed bathrooms, with hot and cold running water and bathtubs.

Patan Mahal is a Heritage Home, surrounded by it’s own farm on one side, an 800-year-old fort and another palace halfway up a hill. The palace grows most of the food it serves and the rest is sourced locally. You can spend your time by walking through the fields or take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool or laze around the pool area which offers a stunning view of the surrounding hills and the palace.

You can also trek up the hill for a day long picnic at the Badalgarh Mahal. If you’re feeling even more adventurous, the trek up to the fort is well worth the time. The fort is one of the few in India to never have been conquered by an invading army. A combined force of the Marathas and the French were the last to try, and having unsuccessfully laid siege to the city, the French commander General de Boigne compared the fort to the Rock of Gibraltar.
