Rajaji National park spreads over 820 sq. kilometres and home to over 400 species of birds and many reptiles including King Cobra. The park includes Rajaji, Motichur, and chilla wildlife sanctuaries which were amalgamated together to form Rajaji National Park in 1983, named after the late C. Rajagopalachari (first Goveneral General of India), a prominent leader of the Indian freedom struggle. The Ganga river bisects and flows through the national park for about a distance of 24 kilometres making water available for the riparian ecosystem as well as to wild animals and plants.
