Mysore was the political capital of the Wodeyar dynasty which ruled the state of Karnataka for some 150 years till the independence of the country from the British. These kings were great patrons of art and culture and Mysore was the cultural capital of the south under the rule of the Wodeyars. The Wodeyars made the Dasara festival an event To showcase the rich culture and heritage of the town. Even to this date this celebration of the Dasara which is a 10 day celebration during the month of Oct/ Nov is a spectacular event to watch. Mysore is a city of palaces, gardens, shady avenues and sacred temples and retains some of the charm of the old world with its many institutions that propagate Carnatic Classical music and dance.

Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta is a remote temple dedicated to Sri Gopala, located in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka state.this Gopalaswamy temple is perched atop a windy hill on the highest peak in Bandipur National Park, 1,450 m. above sea level.
Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta is well known for its picturesque views of the surrounding hills and valleys, and pilgrims brave the steady wind and chill weather to take darshan of the Lord and His environs in this most beautiful place.
Bandipur National Park is one of India's best known sanctuaries, and is an important Project Tiger reserve. Bandipur National Park is about 80 kms from Mysore city and is a peaceful retreat in nature's lap far from the din of the city Gopalaswamy Betta (Hill) is the highest point on the sanctuary is about 16 Km. from Gundlupet.
