Located in the heart of Puducherry, Rue Romain Rolland, the mansion dates back to when Puducherry was being rebuilt, in the 1760’s. During the course of numerous visits to Pondicherry, Francis Wacziarg discovered the house that was about to be vacated by the French administration as it had been declared unsafe. The building was named the «Instruction Publique» – the board is still above the entrance door. The house was officially acquired in October 1998 and restored to his past glory. Accomodations : Our 14 rooms are individually designed in a grand French heritage style with a high level of comfort. All our rooms are air-conditioned – have been named after old French settlements in India : Masulipatam, Surate, Calicut, Gingy, Balassore, Cassimbazar, which are all names of ‘loges’ and ‘factories’. The suites were named after the slightly more famous French areas: Mahe, Yanaon, Chandernagor, Karikal. In each room you will find an object which represents the region in which the French-occupied town was in. In the room you shall find comfortable bath-robes, Wi-Fi network, electronic safe and a minibar. The bathroom amenities includes organic soaps, shower gel, shampoos and organic linen.
